From the Greek eucalyptos, meaning “well covered” the name refers to the formation of the eucalyptus flowers. Australian aboriginals have long used eucalyptus medicinally for wound care and as a fumigant, it is also referred to in Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine. In Western medicine, it is often used in cough and cold preparations. Steam distilled, the oil is cooling to the senses.
